Mary Thompson – Executive Director
With over 20 years of experience in nonprofit leadership and early education, Mary Thompson has dedicated her career to transforming community-based learning initiatives. Her vision for THE OVERTON SOCIAL CLUB stems from her belief that education is the most powerful tool for social change. Under her guidance, the organization has expanded its programs, strengthened partnerships, and reached countless families in Newark and beyond. Mary is known for her compassionate leadership style, her hands-on approach, and her unwavering commitment to making every child’s experience meaningful and joyful. David Morales – Program Director
David Morales brings over a decade of experience in curriculum design, youth mentorship, and social outreach. As Program Director, he oversees the development and implementation of educational programs that integrate creativity, play, and community values. David’s background in child psychology allows him to craft learning experiences that nurture the whole child — intellectually, emotionally, and socially. He is deeply committed to empowering families through education and believes that every program should reflect the unique strengths and needs of the community it serves. Angela Brooks – Lead Educator
Angela Brooks is a passionate early childhood educator with more than 15 years of experience in early learning centers and community education programs. Her teaching philosophy is rooted in love, patience, and discovery. Angela’s classrooms are known for their energy, creativity, and focus on individualized learning. She believes that each child learns at their own pace and thrives when their curiosity is nurtured through play and exploration. Beyond her classroom, Angela mentors new educators, leads parent workshops, and helps bridge the gap between home and school, ensuring that learning continues long after the day ends.

Sophia Nguyen – Family Engagement Coordinator
Sophia Nguyen serves as the vital link between our programs and the families we support. With her background in social work and community advocacy, Sophia works closely with parents to provide resources, organize family events, and ensure open communication between home and school. With a Master’s degree in Social Work and a background in counseling, Denise focuses on empowering parents through education, communication, and community connection. She organizes workshops, family nights, and community events that foster collaboration and mutual support. Denise’s warm personality and deep understanding of family dynamics make her a trusted ally for parents navigating the challenges of early childhood development. She believes that families are children’s first and most important teachers, and her work ensures that parents are active partners in every aspect of their child’s growth.
